Cedar bread in the traditional moon shape

Cedar bread is a Christmas cookie similar to the cinnamon star .

The name does not refer to cedar , but to the citron , which, like cedar, is called “cedro” in the Italian language.

nature

Cedar bread has existed at least since the end of the 19th century, as evidenced by an entry in a cookbook from that time. Compared to the much better known Zimtstern, it is not subject to any statutory ingredients. The cedar bread is mostly distinguished by its moon shape and the addition of lemon juice or lemon peel to the base dough. It can be kept for about two to three weeks in a closed can.
