Zefiro (engine)

Zefiro is the name of a family of different solid - rocket engines by Italian engine manufacturer Avio are developed and marketed. There are currently three models of different sizes and thrust: the Zefiro 23 , the Zefiro 16 and the Zefiro 9 . In the European launch vehicle Vega , the Zefiro 23 is used in the second and the Zefiro 9 in the third stage. The Zefiro 16 has not yet been used in a launch vehicle. The Zefiro 40 is in development for the Vega C / E .

Surname

Zefiro is the Italian name of the Greek god Zephyr . Zephyr was worshiped as the god of the west wind.

Technical specifications

HTPB 1912 ( hydroxyl-terminated polybutadiene 1912) is used as fuel in all Zefiro models .
