Centering aid

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The centering aid is a device with the help of which precisely fitting adhesive paper labels for music or data CDs are aligned before they are affixed to the data carrier .

Centering aids are mostly sold as part of so-called “labeling kits” in a bundle with the labels and labeling programs. However, products are also available separately, as well as those for different inner hole diameters of the blank CDs.

The device fulfills two purposes at the same time:

  • It prevents the labels from slipping towards the center. This would cause the CD to spin unbalanced in the drive , which can damage the device at higher speeds.
  • In addition, the better centering aids provide a stable base that allows the adhesive labels to be pressed on evenly without the risk of scratching the data carrier.
