history

In 2003 the two universities of Duisburg and Essen were merged. The central operating unit ZIM was founded as part of the merger process. For this purpose, the two previous computer centers, the two media centers and parts of the IT of the university library and the university administration were merged into one facility.

When it was founded in 2005, the ZIM organized itself into the business areas of ERP administration applications, IT infrastructure, media and customer service as well as project management and cross-sectional tasks.

During the renovation of building R11, the PC hall will be replaced by two combinable rooms with 150 and 70 workplaces respectively.

Together with the university library, the ZIM operates a joint advice center, the E-Competence Agency. This advises on digital services and technologies.
