Degree of shredding

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The degree of comminution Z is a quantity from chemical and mechanical process engineering and provides information on how effective the comminution takes place.

It is defined as the ratio of the maximum grain diameter D in the feed material to the maximum grain diameter d in the comminuted product.

A shredding factor of 1 means that no shredding has taken place. If the largest particles are still half the diameter after being crushed, Z = 2. The more crushed, the larger Z becomes.
