Cervical smear

A cervical scraping is similar to the vaginal a medical procedures to the gynecological examination . It is used to take samples for diagnostics in gynecology .

A cell smear is taken from the cervix uteri with a brush ( cytobrush ) or a spatula, smeared on a slide and fixed. It is then taken to a cytological laboratory, where it is stained and assessed ( Pap test ). The cervical swab is particularly advisable for women beyond the menopause . The cervical smear is currently the safest and most successful diagnostic method for the early detection of cervical cancer . The accuracy is almost 90%.

The cytology is a technical advancement in the extraction and processing of the smears as part of Pap tests.
