Cervical esophageal pouch

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Cervical esophageal pouch in the pulp swallow examination.

A cervical esophageal pouch is a temporary, small protrusion of the esophagus during swallowing, most often backwards just below the upper esophageal sphincter in the Laimer's triangle . If the protuberance is consistently detectable between swallowing during the resting phase, it is a Killian-Jamieson diverticulum .

The location under the sphincter and the resulting emptying down into the esophagus help to differentiate it from Zenker's diverticula and pouches .
