Zeynep Kuray

Zeynep Kuray (* 1978 ) is a Turkish journalist. Most recently she wrote for BirGün and the Firatnews Agency .

Life

Zeynep Kuray is a daughter of Dev-Genç co- founder Sarp Kuray and the stage actress Ayşe Emel Mesçi. After the coup in Turkey in 1980, the family emigrated to France. During this time she played a child role in the film Duvar by Yılmaz Güney . Zeynep Kuray only returned to Turkey two decades later. In 2008 she started writing for BirGün and from 2010 for the Firatnews Agency .

In 2013 Zeynep Kuray was awarded the Ilaria Alpi Prize . However, since it was unable to leave the country to receive it, it was ultimately awarded to another recipient. Also in 2013, Zeynep received the "John Aubuchon Press Freedom Award" from the National Press Club in Washington, DC . Zeynep Kuray was arrested several times as part of the "KCK proceedings" and was unable to personally accept the award due to ongoing legal proceedings. She was arrested again on October 25, 2017.
