Zhenru Temple (Shanghai)
The Zhenru Temple ( Chinese 真如 寺 , Pinyin Zhēnrú sì , English Zhenru Temple ) is located in the Zhenru municipality in the Putuo district in northwest Shanghai .
The temple was built in 1320 during the Mongol Dynasty . Its main hall or great hall (Dadian) is the oldest surviving building in Shanghai in timber frame construction (wood frame building) .
The temple dates back to the Southern Song Dynasty . Its original name was Wannian Temple ( 万寿寺 ), it was also called Damiao ( 大庙 ) ("Great Temple").
The main hall of the Zhenru Temple ( 真如 寺 大殿 , Zhenru si Dadian ) has been on the list of monuments of the People's Republic of China (4-120) since 1996 .
