Zhongdian yak

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Zhongdian yak is a breed of domestic yak . Since the targeted breeding of the yak is not yet very advanced, yak breeds generally have less breed-typical characteristics than was the case, for example, with European land cattle breeds in the middle of the 19th century. Therefore, phenotypic differences in the house yak are mainly due to the geographical separation of widely spaced locations.

The Zhongdian Yak is bred in Yunnan Province . The main center of the attitude is Shangri-La (Chin. 香格里拉 县, Xiānggélǐlā xiàn), formerly Zhongdian (Tibetan: rgyal thang; Chin. 中甸 县, Zhōngdiàn xiàn), a district in the northwest of the province and the seat of the government of the autonomous region Dêqên of the Tibetans. The breed is widespread in the Yunnan highlands and makes up a quarter of all cattle kept. Another 13 percent of the cattle kept come from crosses between yaks and domestic cattle.
