Zhou Shen ( Chinese周 深; pinyin: Zhōu Shēn ; western name: Charlie ; Ukrainian Чжоу Шень ) (born September 29, 1992) is a Chinese singer. The best known is his song Big Fish (大鱼) . Zhou won the Best Greater China Act of the MTV Europe Music Awards 2019 .

Life

Zhou Shen was born in Hunan in 1992. During his primary school years he moved to Guizhou with his parents and after graduating from high school went to the Ukraine to study. At first he studied medicine, but switched to bel canto after a year . He graduated in 2016.

Career

The Voice, The Masked Singer & Super-Vocal

Zhou started singing on the Internet in 2010, but only let his voice be heard without showing himself on the video. In 2014, he finally took part in the singing talent show The Voice of China , which is why he first became known on television. In 2016 and 2018, Zhou was twice on the music show The Masked Singer , wearing a mask and a long dress. In 2018 Zhou appeared on the music show Super-Vocal , sang songs like Time To Say Goodbye , Memory and The Lonely Goatherd .

The first studio single

The musician Gao Xiaosong heard Zhou's song in The Voice and said: Such a beautiful voice, it would be a shame if he didn't even sing one of my songs. In 2015, Zhou released his first studio single Rose and Hirsch , which was produced by Gao and his team for Zhou. Zhou received two awards for this.

Big Fish

Zhou's best-known song is Big Fish (大鱼) , the theme song for the Chinese animated film Big Fish & Begonia - Two Worlds, One Fate ( 大鱼 海棠 ) from 2016. Zhou won 8 awards with it. The song and its music video were released on May 18, 2016 to give the audience a first taste of the film. This song was played with two other songs together at the end of the film. Publisher Universum Anime released the film in German cinemas in February 2019 and released it on DVD and Blu-ray in May 2019.

The debut album

In November 2017, Zhou released his debut album Tief und Tiefer (深 的 深) , which was also produced by Gao Xiaosong and his team. For this he received three awards.

The Shape of Water

In March 2018, Zhou sang the Chinese song The Shape of Water (水 形 物语) for the Oscar-winning film Shape of Water - The Whisper of Water . The song and the accompanying music video were released on March 13, 2018. Zhou promoted the film in the Chinese market but was not part of the film. On March 14, 2018, Zhou sang the song at the film's premiere in Beijing.

To date, Zhou has released one studio album and more than thirty studio singles. He has sung another forty songs on television and internet broadcasts.

His first tour Shen Space ( 深 空间 ) took place in May and June 2018 and January, June and July 2019. The second concert tour C-929 Planet (C-929 星球) is scheduled to start in November 2019.

Awards

Zhou won the People's Choice Male Singer and Most Improved Artist of the ERC Chinese Top Ten Awards in 2017 and 2018, respectively. In total, Zhou has received over thirty awards.
