From 1847 to 1912, Ziegelhütte was the name of a residential area that belonged to Oberkochen as a district . It was named after a brickworks that existed from 1840 to 1919 near the oil pond in today's Leitzstrasse in Oberkochen .

history

The brickworks was built in 1840 by Johann Michael Gold next to the grinding mill at the Ölweiher, which has existed since 1498. Johann Michael Gold had 5 sons who made up the workforce and tirelessly made the Oberkochen entrepreneur a "Lettabaron".

Around 1906 his son Carl Gold, Ziegler, (1849–1930) owned the brickworks. The term "Ziegler" is the house name that has been preserved to this day. Under Carl Gold, the turnover and the quality of the bricks deteriorated because there were limescale inclusions in the loam called "Letta", so that over time small parts were blasted out of the roof tiles fired from them when they got damp. He therefore sold the property to the rapidly expanding Leitz drill factory on the Ölweiher.

The buildings were on Vizinalweg No. 9 (350/5), which was only renamed to Ziegelstraße after the brickworks had been demolished. After the Second World War , Ziegelstrasse was renamed Wacholdersteige and, in the 1970s, the upper part was renamed Leitzstrasse.
