history

The site was developed towards the end of the 18th century. Around 1846, Professor Francsco Valentini built a house. The outside of the house was provided with wisdom. He renamed the hill Monte Caprino and founded a committee to redesign the goat hill. Nothing is left of the buildings today. In 1884 the mountain came into the possession of the alum works, in 1891 Bad Freienwalde received the site in an exchange.

Heroes Grove and War Memorial

The war memorial was built in 1929. It is intended to commemorate 300 victims of the First World War . After a competition, Wolf-Dieter Stein carried out the memorial. After the Second World War , the memorial was damaged by vandalism, among other things. It was restored from 1994 to 1996.

The monument was built from clinker bricks, and the architectural style was influenced by Expressionism . The main part of the monument is about eight meters high and shaped like a ship's bow. There is a sculpture at the tip of the bow showing a grieving war widow. The sculpture is made of shell limestone and is damaged. On the inside there are 40 clay tablets with the names of the fallen. Soldiers' heads were placed above the boards. An inscription read: "If your mind does not master corruption, your mind masters it".
