The Berlin street is a historically incurred Road in Bad Freienwalde (Oder) . It is worth mentioning three architectural monuments as well as the northernmost ski jumping hill in Germany.
Location and history
Berliner Straße is a main street in Bad Freienwalde and here at the same time a section of Bundesstraße 158 . Coming from the southwest, the road leads downhill into the city center. Shortly before the inner city area is reached, Bundesstrasse 158 continues as an elevated road, Berliner Strasse branches off to the south and joins Gesundbrunnenstrasse .
The name of the street changed several times. In the period from 1933 to 1945 it was called Adolf-Hitler-Strasse , from 1945 to 1963 Stalinstrasse and from 1963 to 1991 Strasse-der-German-Soviet friendship . Since 1991 it has been called Berliner Strasse again.
Architectural monuments
- The Soviet military cemetery is located in the palace gardens, north of the street at the beginning of the city center. The cemetery was laid out for 1843 soldiers and officers who fell on municipal territory in the final fighting in World War II . It was created shortly after the end of the war; in 1983 the cemetery was converted into a memorial complex. The complex is shaped by a monument. A grieving soldier with a rifle and steel helmet stands on a pedestal . On the left there are six large bronze plaques with memorial inscriptions.
- The house at Berliner Straße 5 was built in 1875 as Villa Wendroth . After private use, it served as the House of Young Pioneers from 1959 to 1990 . Today it is used by the district music school. The tower villa is single-storey and made of yellow bricks. The middle part of the house has four axes , on the right and left there are protruding tracts with a gable roof each .
- The hospital ensemble at Berliner Straße 29/30 consists of three parts. The oldest was built in 1872. The clinic was expanded by a building in 1902/1903. The third building on the corner of August-Heese-Straße was inaugurated on December 1, 1930. This third extension was built in the New Objectivity style. The house has four floors; its main facade is concave . The central axis with the staircase and the ground floor are faced with clinker bricks.
Sports facilities on the street
The Schanzen am Papengrund , which is the northernmost ski jumping center in Germany, is located on Berliner Straße .
