Altranft lies on a fertile alluvial cone and was therefore settled early. Find sites from the Early Stone Age are known. Altranft was first mentioned in writing in 1375 as Ramft in the land register of Emperor Charles IV . In 1763 the village of Neu-Ranft was founded, so the name Alt-Ranft became common. In 1375, eleven kossas lived off fishing and farming. There is evidence of a manor in the 15th century. In 1827 a fire destroyed the farm buildings and they were rebuilt. In 1829 a fire destroyed almost all of the buildings on the Anger. In 1994 Altranft was incorporated into Bad Freienwalde.
