Location and history
The street begins on Uchtenhagenstrasse and runs in a south-westerly direction. After the junction with Johannistraße, the traffic route is a dead end . From here the road rises significantly, it is located in the former vineyard valley. The numbering of the buildings begins on Uchtenhagenstrasse on the left and continues in a horseshoe shape. The ruin mountain with the artificial ruin is accessible from the Weinbergstrasse .
The Amtsweinberg was located here on Weinbergstrasse for a long time . The area was then seven acres . In the years 1866–1867, the humanistic high school was built at 4 Weinbergstrasse. In 1868 the street got its official name Weinbergstraße. For the next thirty years, well-to-do citizens settled here, including Victor Blüthgen , a writer and poet. He lived in house number 16, which was destroyed during World War II. Most of the villas and houses from the construction period have been preserved and placed under monument protection.
Architectural monuments
In the Weinbergstrasse three houses and the artificial ruin on the ruin mountain are listed.
- Artificial ruin: a narrow footpath goes north from Weinbergstrasse to a top of the ruin mountain. The ruins were laid out in 1820. It is a small tower that looks as if it would soon collapse. It can be used as a lookout point.
- Weinbergstrasse 4: The grammar school with a gym and a toilet was the first building on Weinbergstrasse. It was built from 1866 to 1867. The history of the grammar school began in 1865, when it was located in the country house on Gesundbrunnenstrasse . The school was expanded in 1881. The building is two-story and set back a little from the street.
- Weinbergstraße 6: The villa was probably built in 1890 in the style of Italian country houses. The villa consists of two parts: the left is gable , the right is eaves, each with a gable roof .
- Weinbergstraße 17 / 17a: The villa with garden house was built in the last quarter of the 19th century in the late classical style . The Berlin architect Max Stutterheim acquired it around 1905 and used it for residential purposes for his family. After the Second World War , the building fell under expropriation and served from the 1950s as a technical school for infant care , then it was a DRK nursing home.
