Adolf Koepsel (born March 26, 1856 in Berlin ; † July 26, 1933 there ) was a German physicist .

His father was a print shop owner. Adolf Koepsel studied mathematics and physics in Berlin and Heidelberg from 1880 to 1885. He was assistant to Hermann von Helmholtz .

From 1885 to 1903 he worked at Siemens & Halske in the field of measurement technology. In 1894 he developed an apparatus named after him for determining the magnetic properties of various types of iron. From 1899 he dealt with wireless telegraphy.

After Desider Korda (1864–1919) from Paris had already received a German patent for the variable capacitor on June 8, 1892 , but Koepsel had no knowledge of it, Koepsel reinvented the variable capacitor in 1901/02 and introduced it as a tuning element the radio technology. He also constructed a more sensitive coherer .

In 1909 he founded his company Dr. A. Koepsel Mechanische Werkstätte GmbH for the production of measuring devices, in which he worked until 1930. In 1927 he had already sold the company to the Askania works.
