City parish church St. Marien | The Protestant parish church originates from the second half of the 13th century. The single-nave church was converted into a two-nave church in the 15th century. The pointed arch windows in the nave and in the choir are from this time. In the years from 1817 to 1827 the tower was demolished and rebuilt according to a design by Karl Friedrich Schinkel . In 1945 the interior was destroyed by the effects of the war. The church was rebuilt in 1992 and brought under a roof. In 1997/1998 the interior was rebuilt in such a way that next to the room for church services a glazed steel shelf, which is clad with light ash wood slats towards the church interior, was built to accommodate the city library and other cultural areas.
