In room aviary is larger Cage equipment for the keeping of pet birds and small mammals in living rooms. The dimensions of the room aviaries are such that the birds can fly freely in the cage system.

When keeping large parakeets and parrots , it is usually very large standing cages with stable bars and perches, often made on rollers. These are offered in pet shops . Room aviaries are more rarely built in-house.

In the classic sense, however, the term "room aviary" is used more for positions in which small ornamental birds such as canaries or finches are housed. The room aviary is then more of a kind of piece of furniture that can be set up like a wall cupboard, for example. Often there is artificial additional lighting inside using a plant light tube or something similar. In order to simulate an artificial habitat that appears as natural as possible , these systems are often planted with resistant indoor plants as a place to sit and climb for the animals. At the front, a sheet of wire glass often enables the animals to be observed, while feeding devices and ventilation elements are attached to the side walls.
