A pet shop , including pet shop , pet store o. Ä., Is a company in the retail , the customers pets , pet food serving and related accessories to buy and advisory stands in the keeping of the animals to the side. According to Section 11 of the German Animal Welfare Act , a special permit is required for trading in pet animals.

In Germany there are over 4100 specialist dealers, whose operating structures can differ greatly: retailers can be found in the store as well as chain stores or specialist departments in hardware stores and garden centers.

The pet supplies market in Germany is divided into the areas of convenience food and supplies / accessories, which in 2009 had a sales volume of 2694 million euros and 909 million euros, respectively. However, according to the industry association for pet supplies, only 33% of pet food was sold through specialist retailers, while the share of accessories was 82%.
