Ralph Rotte

Ralph Rotte (born April 30, 1968 in Warendorf ) has been a university professor for political science at the Institute for Political Science at RWTH Aachen University since 2001 .

Rotte studied political science with a focus on international politics and recent history at the Munich School of Politics (Diploma 1991) as well as economics and empirical econometrics at the University of Munich (Diploma 1993). He received his doctorate (1995) and habilitation (2001) at the University of the Federal Armed Forces in Munich .

After completing his studies, Rotte first worked as an analyst at the European Center for International Security (EUCIS) in Starnberg in 1993, before working as a research assistant at Klaus F. Zimmermann's Chair for Economics at the University of Munich from 1993 to 1998 . There he dealt in particular with questions of empirical economic research as well as labor market and migration policy and worked with Christoph M. Schmidt and Thomas K. Bauer , among others . From 1997 he was also a lecturer in political science / international relations at the Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of the Federal Armed Forces in Munich (until 2001). There he received his doctorate in 1995 from Jürgen Schwarz's chair for international politics and international law , where he also worked on his habilitation thesis from 1999 to 2000 as part of a grant from the DFG ( German Research Foundation ), which was reviewed by Werner Link , among others . From 2000 to 2001 Rotte headed the Department for Political Economy and International Economic Relations at the Academy for Politics and Current Affairs of the Hanns Seidel Foundation in Munich. In 2001 he was offered a university professorship for political science (since 2017 for international relations) at RWTH Aachen University , where he initially acted as a professor's representative and has been a professor since September 2001.

From 1997 to 2001 Rotte was a Research Affiliate of the Center for Economic Policy Research (CEPR) in London. He has been a Research Fellow of the IZA ( Research Institute for the Future of Work ) in Bonn since 1998 , where he was also a visiting scientist and lecturer at the University of Bonn in the same year.

Rotte's interests in research and teaching lie in the areas of foreign and security policy of western democracies, empirical-historical and political-economic war and conflict research, strategic studies , international political economy and economic / financial policy in a European and international context, defense economics , transnational migration and international migration policy and international relations of the Holy See. Larger projects of its externally funded research have so far among others, the European Union (European Science Foundation / European Science Foundation ) and the German-Israeli Foundation for Scientific Research and Development (International Project Labor Demand, Education and the Dynamics of Social Exclusion , Duration: 1998-2001) , the German Research Foundation ( Economic Globalization, Cultural Divergence and Liberal Peace , 1999–2000) and the Federal Ministry of Defense ( Military Political and Strategic Implications of Climate Change from a German Perspective , 2010–2011; Determinants of the Relationship between the Bundeswehr and Society , 2014– 2016).

Rotte's publications include around 15 monographs and edited books, around 30 articles in anthologies and around 70 articles in German and English-language journals, including international journals such as the Journal of Conflict Resolution , Public Choice , Defense and Peace Economics , International Migration Review , European Journal of International Relations , Strategic Studies Quarterly , African Security Review , Journal of Population Economics , Review of Development Economics or Journal of Applied Econometrics .
