Harald Karas

Harald Karas (often Harald Karras written) (* 9. April 1927 in Ottendorf ; † 3. December 2015 in Berlin ) was a German journalist , news anchor and radio and television presenter .

Life

Karas grew up in Schwepnitz near Königsbrück and from 1937 attended the Lessing School in Kamenz . In 1949 he came to Berlin and studied at the Free University of Berlin , the subjects journalism and sociology . He started his journalistic activities in 1952 with the Northwest German Broadcasting Corporation (NWDR) in West Berlin . He was also one of the first television news speakers and reporters (Rund um die Berolina) for the broadcaster Free Berlin (SFB). Karas was also the first presenter of the Berliner Abendschau since September 1, 1958and in 1960 also became the head of this previous evening's regional news program. He stayed that way until 1984 and then moderated other SFB formats for a few years, including the city ​​talks , before retiring in 1991.

Harald Karas lived in the Berlin district of Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf .
