Zipoites
Zipoites ( Greek Ζιποίτης ; * 356 BC ; † 280 BC ) was from 328 to 280 BC. BC ruler of Bithynia . Zipoites came to power in the decline phase of Persian rule initiated by Alexander the Great and ruled as an almost independent king.
His father Bas , whose successor Zipoites 328 BC. B.C., had exercised its power largely independently of the Persian Empire. In attempts to expand his sphere of influence at the expense of the Greek cities in the region, Zipoites initially failed because of the Diadoch Antigonus I , but soon allied with him. Zipoites, however, was militarily successful against the Diadochus Lysimachus . After winning a battle, he took in the autumn of 297 BC. As the first Bithynian ruler, he officially accepted the title of king, which he passed on to his son Nicomedes I shortly afterwards . Zipoites died shortly after the Battle of Kurupedion (281 BC).
