The Citadel of Saint-Tropez is a fortress in the city ​​of the same name on the Côte d'Azur .

The place was founded and continuously expanded in the 8th century for strategic reasons. The citadel in its current size was built in 1602 to defend against the Ottoman Empire . The mighty defense system protected the city for more than 400 years.

The facility consists of a hexagonal central building with a corner tower and extensive walling.

In 1958 a naval museum opened in the complex, which was closed in 2002. In 2013, the museum reopened with a focus on marine collections, particularly fishing, trade and military shipping.
