Ziwilsk pig

The Ziwilsker Pig ( Russian : Цивильская , Ziwilskaja ) is a breed of pig from Russia .

Breeding history

The breed was created by crossing native Chuvash sows with Boars of the Large White breed near the town of Ziwilsk in Chuvashia .

Characteristics

  • color white
  • Head heavier than that of the Large White, with a broad forehead and slightly arched, rather long nose
  • Ears medium-sized, hanging forward
  • Back straight and even
  • Weight sows 229 kg, boars 299 kg
  • Time up to 100 kg: 196 days

There are 11 boar lines and 21 sow families.

Occurrence

The breed is mainly kept in Chuvashia. In 1980 there were 35,600 animals.
