Customs Administration (Austria)

The customs administration is part of the Austrian financial administration and is responsible for tasks in the context of customs .

Each of the nine Austrian customs offices is subordinate to a regional management , of which there are a total of five. The regional management, in turn, is subordinate to the Federal Ministry of Finance .

tasks

The customs administration, with around 1750 employees, is traditionally responsible for tax administration and also for monitoring international trade in goods. Your specific tasks are

  • the handling of goods from and to third countries
  • the protection of the economy and citizens against product piracy , counterfeit products and dangerous goods
  • the examination of export refunds for Austrian agricultural products
  • the administration of various international agreements for preferential imports and exports
  • Providing information on general customs matters and answering special customs tariff questions as well as inquiries about bans and restrictions ("Central Customs Information Office")
