from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A zooecium or zoecium , also referred to as an extrazooidal skeleton, is an external skeletal structure that surrounds the individual animals ( zooids ) within a colony of sessile metazoa . These normally form a network of residential tubes that are grown together. They can be found mainly in the bryozoa or the winged gills (Pterobranchia).
