Braid (forestry)

Braid comes in various different terms in forestry .

  • The top part of a tree, the top , is also known as the braid .
  • In the forest work the activity of removing the branches , twigs and the tops, in the processing of felled trees, is referred to as plaiting .
  • In the case of a felled tree, the trunk is divided into earth trunk , middle trunk and the plait piece . This piece of plait is not the top (plait), but the top piece of the felled and de-tipped tree.
  • The plait diameter (also called plait thickness) denotes the diameter at the thin end of the plait piece, the trunk that has been processed into round wood. It plays a special role in the sorting of raw wood . Most timber buyers require a certain minimum diameter. This can e.g. B. in the Heilbronn sorting between 10 and 30 cm.
