The Zophoros or also Zôophoros ( Greek ζῳοφόρος ) is a term from the Greek language (from ζῷον , zóon living being, animal and φέρω , wearing phéro ) and denotes a frieze mostly on a temple, which, with (fable -) (animal) Figures painted or designed as a relief , running as a kind of ribbon over the columns around the whole building. This frieze of figures is originally a feature of the Attic-Ionic temples. It can also be found later, for example in a number of Roman temples, still built in this style.
