Future management

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Future management refers to the totality of methods, tools and processes that are used in the context of corporate management in order to identify changes in customers, the market and technologies as well as the resulting threats and opportunities at an early stage and to incorporate them into strategic management.

Future management builds a bridge between future research and strategic management and thus facilitates the use of future knowledge and methods of future research as an entrepreneurial resource.

Classification of the term

While the terms foresight emphasize the process of observation and evaluation, future management also includes the development and monitoring of future strategies. In a broad sense, future management is, depending on the origin of the viewer, the part of strategic management that focuses on long-term future analyzes or the entrepreneurial part of future research.

Possible misunderstandings

The term future management can be misunderstood as an illusionary attempt to control the non-influenceable environment of a company. Rather, future management aims to expand, organize, evaluate, evaluate and convert the "future knowledge" (in the sense of thoughts) of a person or a team (assumptions, scenarios, threats, opportunities, visions, goals, etc.) into meaningful Implement strategies. Such "future knowledge", which affects the environment as well as one's own person or organization, can also be captured and influenced in the present, so it can be managed.

Future management can be misunderstood as a promise of complete control of the future. However, since the future cannot be foreseen and plans can rarely be implemented as planned, it goes without saying that future management does not guarantee success, but can only improve the chances of success.
