Location
Zuort ( Rhaeto-Romanic in the idiom Vallader for “deaf”) is a fraction of the municipality of Scuol ( Sent until 2014 ) in the Lower Engadine Val Sinestra in Switzerland . The court Zuort , a small hamlet on 1,711 meters above sea level lies approximately 2.5 kilometers north of the Kurhaus Sinestra and from the plateau of Sent or Vnà accessible from. A small road leads to the Kurhaus and a post bus line in summer . Hof Zuort was a customs post for centuries .
, originally Suord ,The recent history of the village of Zuort was significantly shaped by the Dutch conductor and composer Willem Mengelberg . Mengelberg had a chalet built for himself and spent his holidays and the last years of his life there. In 1920 he acquired the ownership of the village and set a farmers from Sent as a tenant, which chapel was built under his leadership, as a memorial to commemorate the preservation of Switzerland and the Netherlands in the First World War .
