Intermediate work
An inter-plant (Fr .: Ouvrage ) is in the fortress a fortified stronghold between the forts of a fortress .
Inside an intermediate plant there can be a casemate as accommodation for military units, especially for infantry .
Intermediate works normally serve to defend the spaces between the larger forts. Mostly they are equipped with heavy machine guns and / or PaKs , sometimes with light artillery. Long-range artillery was usually not used, as this task was taken over by the neighboring forts. The boundaries between other types of forts are not always clear.
Examples of intermediate plants are:
- Intermediate work VIII a of the Magdeburg Fortress
- Intermediate work VIII b of the fortress ring in Cologne with the Cologne fortress museum
- Hübeling battery in Koblenz
- Ouvrage de Froideterre near Verdun
