Eric Poulat

Éric Poulat (born December 8, 1963 in Bron , Département Rhône ) is a former French football referee . The 185 cm tall computer scientist was FIFA referee from January 1, 1999 .

Games

Poulat, who passed the referee examination in 1978, led over 48 games in the French top division, Ligue 1 , from 2003 . He whistled three World Cup qualifiers , Lithuania v Spain (final score 0-0), Russia v Latvia (2-0) and Italy v Slovenia (1-0). In the 2005/06 Champions League season he was referee in seven games, including the matches FC Artmedia Bratislava - Inter Milan (0: 1), Panathinaikos Athens - Werder Bremen (2: 1), FC Liverpool - Real Betis Sevilla ( 0-0), PSV Eindhoven - Fenerbahce Istanbul (2-0) and Glasgow Rangers - FC Villarreal (2-2).

Tournaments

For Poulat, the 2006 World Cup in Germany was the first soccer World Cup as a FIFA referee - it remained his only one because of the age limit. From a shortlist of 44 referees, Poulat and 20 other colleagues were nominated for the 2006 World Cup. His assistants were Lionel Dagorne and Vincent Texier (both France). His linesman Nelly Viennot, who was part of the team from 1999 to 2007, failed her performance test shortly before the tournament.

Poulat whistled the preliminary round matches Portugal-Iran 3: 1 (1: 1) and Brazil-Japan 4: 1 (1: 1).
