The 1983 Silverstone 1000 km race , also known as the Grand Prix International 1000 Kms, Silverstone Grand Prix Circuit , took place on May 8th at the Silverstone Circuit and was the second round of the World Sports Car Championship that year.

The race

After the victory of bob wollek and Thierry Boutsen in Joest - Porsche 956 at the 1000 km race at Monza race event brought in Silverstone the first win of the season for the Porsche - factory team . The race started on a wet road. Riccardo Patrese and Teo Fabi's two Lancia LC2s took the lead from positions four and five on the grid . On the dry track, Alan Jones , the 1980 Formula 1 world champion , took first place in the ranking before the works Porsche took over command. The race was decided by one of the rare driving mistakes by Jacky Ickx , who damaged the car so badly during a spin that he could no longer drive. After the two Lancia had to be parked in the pits due to overheated engines, Derek Bell and Stefan Bellof won in the end in the works Porsche 956.
