Corinthian War in Greece

Eirene , the goddess of peace in Greek mythology - Kephisodot, around 370 BC Chr.
  • Sparta and Athens negotiate to end the Corinthian War . The Attic speaker Andokides calls for the adoption of the agreed General Peace (koiné eiréne) . This would not only mean a cessation of the fighting, but would bring a lasting peace to all Greek cities based on the sovereignty of all city-states. However, the negotiated agreement is rejected.
  • The Attic relief army reaches Corinth , whose port city Lechaion was captured by the Spartans. When a Spartan general led his regiment of 600 hoplites through Corinthia, the Attic commander Iphikrates took the chance and attacked the Spartans with his Peltasts . The units, only protected by light shields, have no trouble keeping the heavy hoplites at a distance and inflicting losses on them with their spears. When the Spartans finally reach Lechaion, 250 soldiers are killed ( Battle of Lechaion ).
  • Iphikrates succeeds in conquering several Spartan bases in the Corinth area. Only the port city of Lechaion remains in enemy hands. This ends the fighting in this region.
  • An army from Argos reaches Corinth. The two city-states decide to unite their domains.
