- 511 : Clovis I , King of the Franks, calls a council of bishops in Orléans , which regulates questions of faith and the organization of the church in the Franconian Empire. The king is granted a decisive influence in the appointment of the bishops in the sense of the Germanic church system .
- After the death of Clovis I, his kingdom is divided among his four sons, Theuderich , Chlodomer , Childebert and Chlothar , who found the new kingdoms of Reims , Orléans, Paris and Soissons .
- 515 : The Neoplatonic philosopher Damascius becomes the last head of the Platonic Academy in Athens .
- 519 : Justin I , Eastern Roman emperor, makes peace with Pope Hormisdas by adopting his formula (creed), which is directed against the Monophysites ; End of the Akakian schism .
