- Justin I and Eutharich are consuls of the Eastern Roman Empire .
- Justinian , the nephew of the Eastern Roman emperor Justin I , is appointed comes .
British Islands
- Together with his son Cynric, Cerdic received the royal crown of the Gewissæ , an Anglo-Saxon tribe that settled in Britain on the Upper Thames. This is considered to be the hour of birth of the Kingdom of Wessex as well as the ruling house of the same name . (The source for this event is the Anglo-Saxon Chronicle , which was written around 400 years later, so that its historicity and its actual date are unclear.)
