- Justinian , the nephew of the Eastern Roman emperor Justin I , becomes consul and magister equitum et peditum praesentalis .
- 521/ 522 : Dhu Nuwas is a coup against Mu'di Karab Ya'fir King of Himyaren in Yemen . He is the only proven Jewish ruler of the empire, possibly in order to maintain an independent position between the great powers of Eastern Europe , Persia and Aksum . Shortly after taking power, Yusuf Asʾar Yathʾar took action against the Himyar Christians, the Ethiopians living in Himyar and the Arab tribes who sympathize with Ethiopia .
