- The Gothic nobleman Godas , who was appointed administrator of the province of Sardinia by Gelimer , the king of the Vandals in North Africa , declares himself ruler of the island and contacts the Eastern Roman emperor Justinian I in order to establish his own Sardinian principality . Gelimer then sends his brother Tzazo to Sardinia with the vandal force. This conquers Cagliari and kills Godas. A rescue mission sent by Justinian comes too late.
- Goda's revolt turns out to be devastating for the Vandal Empire. Because while Tzazo was in Sardinia with the Vandal Army, a Byzantine army under the command of Belisarius landed without a fight near Caput Vada in September with the intention of reincorporating North Africa into the Byzantine Empire . The vandal war begins. Gelimer then has Hilderich , whom he overthrew three years ago, murdered in captivity in order to prevent his re-accession to the throne.
- September 13th : In the battle of Ad Decimum , south of Carthage , the Eastern Roman general Belisarius defeats the Vandals . The next day he enters Carthage.
- December 15 : The Eastern Roman troops under Belisarius defeat the Vandals in the Battle of Tricamarum , with which Gelimer's attempt to recapture Carthage fails. Shortly afterwards, Belisarius also moves into Hippo Regius , while Gelimer has to retreat to a fortress in the Atlas Mountains . The Vandal empire falls to the east.
