Dijon 6-hour race 1979
The 6-hour race of Dijon 1979 , also called Dijon 6 Hours , took place on April 22nd on the Circuit de Dijon-Prenois . The race was the fifth round of the sports car world championship this year.
The race
The second branded world championship race brought only insignificant improvements in the number of participants compared to the event in Mugello . In Dijon, a sports car in the category over 2 liters was registered, but this vehicle eliminated the last bit of racing excitement. The Porsche 908/3 Turbo used by Joest Racing was superior to the Porsche 935 competition in all respects. The distance was already striking. The pole position -time of Reinhold Joest was with 1: 17.770 minutes to nearly three seconds faster than the best time of the second-placed Porsche 935 of Manfred Schurti , John Fitzpatrick and Bob Wollek. At the end of the race, Joest and his teammates Volkert Merl and Mario Ketterer had a four-lap lead over the best-placed Porsche 935.
