The ATB Winterthur was a cycling club from Winterthur . The club, founded in 1906, was a section of the ATB - Association for Sport, Transport and Leisure and existed until its merger in the Radballclub Winterthur in 2012.

history

The club is founded after a call in the “Arbeiterzeitung” and joins the Arbeiter-Radfahrerbund Solidarität (ARB) and the Winterthur Workers' Union - one year after it was founded, the club begins a round trip , and the Veltheim section also becomes the first worker -Cyclists' association founded in another urban district of Winterthur today. Belonging to the ARB, which was based in Offenbach, Germany, brings the association allegations of the civil RV Winterthur . As a socialist workers' association, people who did not take part in any political campaigns were denied entry. A landlord who served strike breakers in the Steigmühle in 1910 was threatened with expulsion. In 1911 the association had 83 members. In 1916, the year of the war, the Swiss sections united in the so-called Gau 23 of the ARB Solidarity broke away from the German umbrella organization and formed their own association with the Workers 'Cyclists Association of Switzerland (later Workers' Touring Association ). The association organ Solidarity appears for the first time in 1917. In 1918, in the municipalities of Lakes and Töss , which are now also the city districts of Winterthur, further worker-cyclist sections were founded, which led to a number of conversions. One year later, the Oberwinterthur , Wülflingen (-> ATB Wülflingen ) and Rorbas sections were created . In 1933 there were two club exclusions because of political convictions, one was a member of the Communist Party and the other was connected to the National Front .

In 1936 it was decided by 18 votes to 3 with 22 abstentions to concentrate on the bike ball in the future. In 1940 and 1941 the ATB Winterthur won the national championship twice with the team Albert Lüthi jun./Paul Spalinger. The traditional Albani tournament was held for the first time on November 10, 1974, the tournament will survive the club and will be continued in RC Winterthur. In 1979 the merger with the Seuzach section took place , and the duo Hegetschweiler / Reymond became Swiss champions - two years later the NLA team dissolved. In 1980 the duo Spalinger / Eisenegger rose to the National League A. In 1991 the ATB and SRB cycling championships are merged for the first time. In the same year, the club also tried to hire the 20-time record cycling world champion Jan Pospíšil as a coach, but this failed due to the lack of a work permit.

On September 7, 2012, the successor club Radballclub Winterthur was founded in merger with the cycling section of RV Winterthur. Most recently, the ATB Winterthur Fanion team played in the third-class first division.
