The Acura TL was a mid- range car from the premium brand Acura belonging to Honda .

The TL, which, after the BMW 3 Series , was the premium sedan with the second best sales figures in the USA, was introduced in 1995 as the successor to the Acura Vigor .

The first TL, short for Touring Luxury , was introduced in 1995 as the Acura 2.5 TL with a 2.5-liter, 5-cylinder engine and a net power of 131 kW (176 hp), which was already used in the Vigor. There was also an Acura 3.2 TL with a maximum output of 149 kW (200 hp) and a 3.2 L V6 engine from the Acura Legend , with the Acura 3.2 TL being slightly larger. The 2.5 TL was sold from spring 1995; the 3.2 TL only in autumn due to customs problems. In Japan the car was sold as the Honda Inspire or Honda Saber - Honda has two separate dealer networks there that use their own names.

The vehicle has two airbags, ABS , air conditioning and central locking as standard .

Second generation (UA5)

2002 Acura TL

The second generation was introduced in 1998, sharing the platform with the American Honda Accord . In the USA, all models were now called Acura 3.2 TL, regardless of the engine used . Internally the models are called UA4 and UA5. The model has now been built in the Marysville factory of Honda of America Mfg. For Japan the model was built under the names Honda Inspire and Honda Saber .

In 2001, as part of a facelift, the Acura TL Type S sports version was added, which has a 3.2-liter engine that has increased to 191 kW (260 hp).

Third generation (UA6, UA7)

2004 Acura TL

A third generation with the internal designations UA6 and UA7 followed in 2004. Now the model was simply called the Acura TL . In Japan the car was sold as the Honda Inspire from 2003. The Type S introduced in the 2007 model year got a 3.5-liter engine with 210 kW (286 hp).

For the 2007 model year, the car received a slight facelift, including an even larger radiator grille.

The fourth generation of the TL was built from 2008. The front, which includes a large chrome plate in the upper area of ​​the radiator grille, has been made even more aggressive. The performance increased accordingly: The normal TL got the 3.5-liter engine of the previous Type S, which was, however, reduced to 209 kW (280 hp); there was also an all-wheel-drive version with a 227 kW (305 hp) 3.7-liter V6 engine as the SH-AWD (“Super-Handling All-Wheel Drive”, for example “great all-wheel drive”). A manual transmission was also offered for this.

For the 2012 model year, the car was slightly revised. In particular, from that point on the front gets by without the gaps on the side of the chrome plate on the grille.

In 2014 the TL was replaced by the Acura TLX .
