Agostino Abbagnale

Agostino Abbagnale (born August 25, 1966 in Pompei ) is a former Italian rower and three-time Olympic gold medalist and multiple world champion .

Life

He won his first gold medal at the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul in double fours . Shortly afterwards he developed thrombosis , which led to a five-year forced break. As a result, he missed the 1992 Olympic Games .

He was able to participate in the 1996 Olympic Games again and won his second gold medal in a double scull with Davide Tizzano , with whom he had already been successful in 1988 .

In 2000 he was able to repeat his success and won his third gold medal in double fours.

In 2003 a recurrence of thrombosis forced him to retire.

Agostino Abbagnale is the younger brother of the two-time Olympic and seven-time world champions Giuseppe Abbagnale and Carmine Abbagnale , who dominated this boat class in two with a helmsman in the 1980s and early 1990s.
