Ahmet Çörekçi

Ahmet Çörekçi (* 10. June 1932 in Osmančík , Çorum ) is a retired Turkish General , among other things, in 1992 and 1993 General Secretary of the National Security MGK ( Milli Güvenlik Kurulu ) and 1995-1997 Supreme Commander of the Air Force (Turk Hava Kuvvetleri) was .

Life

Officer and staff officer

After attending primary school in Osmancık and secondary school in Çorum, Çörekçi graduated from the Air Force Cadet Institute (Işıklar Askeri Lisesi) and then from the Air Force School ( Hava Harp Okulu ) , which he graduated as an ensign (Asteğmen) on August 30, 1955 . This was followed by pilot training in Canada and in Izmir from October 1, 1955 to August 10, 1955 . He was then an officer between September 29, 1957 and September 10, 1966 at the 5th Air Force Base in Merzifon , the 1st Air Force Base in Eskişehir and the 1st Air Liaison Group .

After Çörekçi had completed his training as a staff officer at the Air Force Academy (Hava Harp Akademisi) between 1966 and 1968 , he became an officer in the Air Operations Department in the General Staff of Turkey and then on August 5, 1969, Chief Operations Officer at the 6th Air Force Base in Bandırma . After that, between August 30, 1972 and August 13, 1972 he was first in command of the 163rd Squadron and finally in command of the 162nd Squadron, before becoming a planning officer at the headquarters of the United NATO Air Forces for Southern Europe AIRSOUTH (Allied Air Forces Southern Europe) in Naples . After his return to Turkey, he became an operations officer of the 6th Air Force Base on September 6, 1974, and then on September 14, 1976, deputy head of the flight training division in the training department of the Air Force High Command.

Promotion to general

Thereupon Çörekçi acted after his promotion to Brigadier General (Tuğgeneral) between August 30, 1978 and August 25, 1981 as the commander of the 4th Air Force Base (Ana Jet Üs Komutanlığı) in Akinci and then from August 25, 1981 to August 23, 1982 as head of the department for logistics and replenishment in the High Command of the Air Force. After he was promoted to major general (Tümgeneral) , he was from August 23, 1982 to August 15, 1986 in command of the Air Force School (Hava Harp Okulu) .

1986 Çörekçi was promoted to lieutenant general (co- general ) and acted as such from 1986 to 1988 as commanding general of the 6th Allied Tactical Air Force (6th Allied Tactical Air Force) of NATO and then between 1988 and 1990 as commanding general of the responsible for Eastern Turkey 2. Tactical air force commandos (2. Tactics Hava Kuvveti Komutanlığı) in Diyarbakir before he was commanding general of the training command of the air force (Hava Eğitim Komutanlığı) in Izmir from 1990 to 1992 .

He remained in this position until he was replaced by General Doğan Bayazıt on August 29, 1993. He then succeeded General Fikret Küpeli on August 30, 1993 as Deputy Chief of the General Staff (Genelkurmay II. Başkanı) of the armed forces (Türk Silahlı Kuvetleri ) and held this post until his replacement by Çevik Bir on August 30, 1995.

Most recently, General Çörekçi, who was awarded the Medal of Merit of the Armed Forces (Türk Silahlı Kuvetleri Üstün Hizmet Madalyası) , became Supreme Commander of the Air Force (Türk Hava Kuvvetleri) on August 18, 1995, and thus succeeded General Halis Burhan . He held this post until his retirement on August 30, 1997 and was then replaced by General İlhan Kılıç .

For alleged involvement in the military coup of February 28, 1997 (28 Şubat süreci) , Çörekçi was arrested with other responsible generals in April 2012, but released from custody in September 2013 on the basis of a court order pending the conclusion of the proceedings.

Çörekçi is married and has two children.
