Alfred Stiegler

Alfred Stiegler (born February 4, 1904 in Reichenbach in Vogtland , † July 10, 1972 ) was the mayor of Düren .

Stiegler, a heating fitter by profession , was one of the few people who stayed in Düren after the American troops marched in. He was appointed mayor by the American military government on March 1, 1945 . A few months later, on October 6th, he was arrested by Americans because they suspected him of belonging to the Gestapo . He was released in early November of the same year and went back to his birthplace, where he worked as a transport worker.

Stiegler was the shortest incumbent mayor. His predecessor was Walter Küper , his successor was Ernst Hammans .
