All Saints' Day (Basel)
The Church of All Saints is a Roman Catholic church in the Swiss city of Basel . It is located in Neubad - quarters in the district Bachletten and the Feast of All Saints consecrated.
history
The church was built by the architect Hermann Baur from 1947 after he had won a competition for a parish church and a parsonage in the Neubad district. In 1950 the foundation stone for the church was laid, the church is largely single-nave with concrete as a design element . Chiselled elements stand out in the interior. The Baurs window construction with prefabricated concrete elements in the upper area of the nave is glare-free. It is considered exceptional and was later adopted in a similar form by other architects. The stone altar was created by Albert Schilling with relief decorations on all four sides, including a scene from the Lord's Supper and a seven-armed candlestick . The tabernacle at the end of the choir was made by Alexander Schaffner. A black and white marble existing sculpture is also from Schilling and was in their representation of Mary initially controversial. Some glass windows in bright basic colors were created by the French painter Alfred Manessier . The marble font was created by Hans Arp , the ceiling fresco by Ferdinand Gehr .
According to information from the city of Basel on March 5, 1996, the building was added to the city's list of monuments after consultation with the owner and based on a city law of December 1994.
In addition to the Catholic neighborhood parish , the Slovak , Filipino and Polish parishes also hold services in the church.
Bells
The bells could only be realized much later after the opening of the church with donations from the church building association. It was not until 1976 that the All Saints' Day bells could be inaugurated. The pastor Anton Benz was able to carry out his last official act here.
The free-standing bell tower houses four bells from the Rüetschi foundry in the open upper part .
