The district court of Lörrach is a court of ordinary jurisdiction with its seat in Lörrach . It belongs to the regional court district of Freiburg im Breisgau . The district court has around 100 employees, including 14 judges and eleven judicial officers .

history

The court, originally inaugurated as the “Grand Ducal Badisches Amtsgericht” in 1865, was built by an unknown architect as one of the largest buildings in Lörrach. A sandstone from Switzerland was used in the construction of the building . The building, which stylistically draws on Renaissance forms, is based on the Palazzo della Cancelleria in Rome .

From an ordinance of July 18, 1857 comes the provision: "The administration of justice of the offices is exercised by independent local courts from September 1, 1857." Thus, the district court was repealed in 1872 and the district court was given its own building for use. The branch of the district court (Bahnhofstrasse 4a, Untere Wallbrunnstrasse 17-19) previously served the function of the main post office and was designed in 1887 by the architect Johann Grießer-Sutter.

Building complex

The main building is located in Bahnhofstrasse. 4 and is just a few minutes' walk from the center. The listed main building dates back to 1874. Renovation work was completed at the end of 2000. The conference rooms I to III are located in the main building. The information counters, the watch department and the negotiation room are also housed. The non-public part houses the administration, the civil and criminal departments and, from January 1, 2018, the probate court.

Lörrach correctional facility

In the back yard, behind the main building of the district court, there is the tower built of red stone with a black, pointed conical roof , which belongs to the building section of the official prison. The cuboid prison building is also made of red stone and has a hipped roof with black shingles. The prison in Lörrach is one of two branch offices of the Freiburg prison .

The adjoining building has the address Bahnhofstr. 4a and is also called Alte Post due to its earlier use . The meeting rooms IV and V are located here. The Freiburg public prosecutor's office, the Lörrach branch, the family court, the foreclosure department, the insolvency department, a training center and the supervision court are also located here.

In the stairwell of the building at Bahnhofstrasse 4 there are several stone sculptures by Bernd Goering as art in the building , in the building at Bahnhofstrasse 4a there are panels by Gerta Haller (1919–2003) and Hans Gottfried Schubert (* 1936).
