Lindegaard's time in Scandinavia

As a child, Lindegaard joined the Odense BK Youth Academy , his hometown club, and signed a professional contract for the 2013-14 season. In Odense, however, he could not prevail against goalkeeper Arkadiusz Onyszko . In the summer of 2008, Lindegaard moved to second division Kolding FC on loan for six months . After only nine missions, Lindegaard returned to Odense, but was then loaned out to Norway to Aalesunds FK , where he prevailed. In the summer, Lindegaard returned to Odense BK after his loan, but since the Northern Irishman Roy Carroll was signed as the successor to Onyszko , he finally joined Aalesunds FK. There he became the regular goalkeeper. With good performances he gradually moved the focus from the English Premier League club Manchester United . Interest was also increased by appearances in the national team.

Transfer to Manchester United

At the turn of the year 2010/11, Lindegaard moved to Manchester United for five million euros. He received a four-year contract. He was therefore considered a possible successor to Edwin van der Sar, who was 40 years old at the time . His move to Manchester caused a sensation, especially since he was unknown outside of Scandinavia. Compatriot Peter Schmeichel , who himself was active at Manchester United, doubted Lindegaard's breakthrough at the big English club. Flemming Povlsen, on the other hand, trusted Lindegaard to fight for a regular place in Manchester; He justified this with his attack speed, with the good anticipation and with the fact that Lindegaard could initiate good attacks with quick drops. Lindegaard also has a certain amount of experience to be a good goalkeeper.

Lindegaard made his first appearances for Manchester United in the 2010/11 FA Cup , before being sidelined for five weeks due to knee surgery. In the league, Lindegaard had to make do with the reserve role in the 2011/12 season before he was used on September 14, 2011 in the 1-1 draw in the group stage of the UEFA Champions League at Benfica Lisbon . In the following years he came to eight appearances in the Premier League before he sustained an injury in January 2012 and was therefore out for several weeks. When regular goalkeeper David de Gea struggled with dental problems, Lindegaard represented them in several games before de Gea was used again in the group game in the Champions League against CFR Cluj . After playing in the league on December 1, 2012, he was criticized by Alex Stepney , a former Manchester United goalkeeper. At the end of the 2012/13 season, Anders Lindegaard was English champion with Manchester United, where he was used in ten games.

West Bromwich Albion, Preston North End and Burnley FC

On August 31, 2015, Lindegaard moved to West Bromwich Albion . After half a year without a league appearance, Lindegaard moved - initially on loan, then permanently from summer 2016 - to Preston North End and stayed there for a year and a half. After Lindegaard had been without a club since the summer of 2017, Burnley FC signed him for a year. The first division responded with the commitment to the protracted injury of goalkeeper Tom Heaton . In the final two years for Burnley, however, Lindegaard did not appear in a single Premier League game and left the club after the end of the 2018/19 season.

Helsingborgs IF

In mid-July 2019, Lindegaard signed a contract with the Swedish first division club Helsingborgs IF until 2012 .

National team

Youth national teams

Lindegaard made six international matches for the youth national teams of Denmark (2 × U19 and 4 × U20).

A national team

At the end of August 2010, Morten Olsen , coach of the Danish national team, called Lindegaard for the qualifying game for the 2012 European Football Championship against Iceland after Thomas Sørensen , the regular goalkeeper, and Stephan Andersen were injured. Anders Lindegaard also played against Iceland and contributed to the 1-0 victory with a strong performance.
