Arend Oetker

Arend Oetker (born March 30, 1939 in Bielefeld ) is a German CEO of Dr. Arend Oetker Holding GmbH & Co. KG in Berlin , honorary president of the Federation of German Industries and member of the CDU . Oetker is a great-grandson of August Oetker and cousin of Richard Oetker .

Live and act

As the son of a farmer and the older sister of Rudolf-August Oetker , Ursula Oetker , Arend grew up on the Hornoldendorf manor with four younger siblings. After graduating from the humanistic high school Leopoldinum in Detmold and completing military service ( Air Force ), an apprenticeship as a foreign trade clerk at Münchmeyer & Co. in Hamburg followed in 1960 . This was followed by a degree in business administration and political science in Hamburg , Berlin and Cologne , which Arend Oetker received in 1967 with a doctorate. rer. pole. at the University of Cologne, he inherited from his mother. Today he is head of Dr. Arend Oetker Holding and owner of Hero AG with the core business of baby food and jam under the brand name Schwartau ( Schwartauer Werke ). Arend Oetker has other equity interests , including in the fields of seeds ( KWS SAAT AG ), raw materials trading and shipping (including a stake in the ferry company TT-Line ). In 2002, Manager Magazin declared Oetker one of the “50 most powerful in the German economy”. The New York magazine Art News counts him among the world's most active art collectors. He has been a member of the CDU since 1982.

Social and economic functions and offices:

From 2000 to 2005 Oetker was chairman of the board of Atlantik-Brücke e. V. and from 1998 to 2013 President of the Donors' Association for German Science . He is also a member of the Trilateral Commission of Europe. He was President of the German Society for Foreign Policy until June 2019, when he handed over the office to Thomas Enders .

In August 2010, Arend Oetker positioned himself as one of 40 prominent signatories of the Energy Policy Appeal , a lobbying initiative of the four major electricity companies to promote the extension of the service life of German nuclear power plants.

Arend Oetker is married to Brigitte Oetker and has five children. You live in a villa in Berlin-Grunewald . He is a reserve captain in the Air Force. Oetker owns the Hornoldendorf racing team , which produced the 2014 derby winner Lucky Speed .
