The Audi S5 is a sports variant of the Audi A5 from Audi AG and, after the RS5, represents the highest level of engine and equipment in this model series.

The presentation of the Audi S5 8T took place at the same time as that of the Audi A5 8T at the 2007 Geneva Motor Show .

Furnishing

The first generation of the S5 was offered as standard with a six-speed manual transmission . From 2008, a six- speed Tiptronic automatic transmission was also offered, which, according to the manufacturer, reduces fuel consumption by almost two liters per 100 kilometers and CO 2 emissions by almost 50 grams per kilometer.

Visually, the S5 differs from the A5 with modified bumpers, radiator grille, aluminum-look exterior mirrors and an exhaust system with four tailpipes.

From spring 2009, in addition to the S5 Coupé, a convertible (presentation: end of 2008) was offered, which was supplemented by a five-door hatchback ( Sportback ) in autumn of the same year . Compared to the Coupé, whose V8 engine is based on the S4 of the B7 series , both have a three-liter V6 engine with supercharging from the Audi S4 B8 and were only offered with the S tronic dual clutch transmission .

Facelift

In autumn 2011 a facelift was carried out on the front and rear. The 4.2-liter V8 engine in the S5 Coupé was replaced by the more modern three-liter V6 with a supercharger.

limited edition

In July 2009 there were also three different limited editions from the Neckarsulm-based Audi exclusive individual studio especially for the Japanese market, of which only five were built and sold. The model is available with 19-inch tires and special paintwork in purple and silver-gray.

On June 2, 2016, Audi presented the second generation of the A5 and S5 Coupé in Ingolstadt . It has been available for order since July 2016.

The A5 and S5 Sportback made their debut at the Mondial de l'Automobile in Paris in October 2016 and came to dealerships in early 2017.

The first pictures of the convertible version of the A5 and S5 were shown on November 4, 2016, and the vehicle had its trade fair premiere at the North American International Auto Show in January 2017 in Detroit . The convertible came to dealers in March 2017.
